Since 1993, I have worked in health communication, focusing my attention on:
  • Communicating with cancer patients and persons with chronic illness
  • Communication issues for family and
    care-givers
  • Effective patient-practitioner communication
  • Identifying & Writing grant funding for health care organizations
  • Developing educational programming for health care organizations
  • Strategic planning for non-profit organizations working with persons with disabilities & senior citizens
  • The use of oral and written narrative in coping with chronic and terminal illness
  • Media treatments of health care issues
The experience of illness, whether from a patient, caretaker, practitioner or social perspective, is stressful at best. I've made a commitment to making scholarly research relevant to peoples' lives. To this end, I develop seminars and training resources designed to enhance the delivery of quality health care across organizations--and to help patients and family cope with the many issues associated with the experience of illness.

--I've taught writing skills to teens, trained seniors to become health care advocates, taught professionals to communicate better with clients and helped patients tell their stories.
